Preparedness article to share

May 24th, 2008

It’s been a while since I had a chance to post and there has been no shortage of news and events to discuss. I have some thoughts to share in the coming days on the flood in China, earthquake in Illinois and the tornado outbreaks seen in the last few weeks.

While I on work on posts, finish redesigning the Cache Outfitters website and adding new products (and product lines) to our inventory, take a look at this article that hit my inbox this morning. It’s worth the read and should get you thinking about general emergency preparedness.

Palatine CERT Challenge 2008

April 27th, 2008

Thanks to the Villiage of Palatine, the Palatine Emergency Management Agency and all of the CERT administrators and volunteers for the warm welcome at the annual CERT challenge. I had a great time and learned so much from so many indivduals. Yesterday was a win/win for us as we were able to meet with the people that use the products we carry and we were able to help out the volunteers by donating several CERT kits, CERT vests and Cache Outfitters gift certificates. I had a great time and look forward to future events in Palatine.

What Are You Planning For?

April 2nd, 2008

I’m curious to hear what you - the reader of our little blog - are preparing for, or maybe learn a bit what you are researching if you haven’t yet devised an emergency plan.

What is the scope of your plan? What are your local hazards? Have you had any experiences where you had to evacuate your home or otherwise implement some sort of emergency response?

What’s in Your Survival Kit?

March 31st, 2008

Are you ready for anything with a custom survival kit? Have you added some personalized items to your ready made go bag?

If you’re like me, you think in terms of “outs”. I’m always looking for hazards and obstacles, such as fire exits in a building or alternate ways to get across a river if a series of bridges were to er… um… fail. No kit is too small and no plan is too big. Do you store food and water to be self reliant for the long term or just keep a blanket and a few bottles of water in the trunk “just in case”?

Hobo Stoves - Cooking Without Power

March 13th, 2008

We’re researching “hobo stoves” and we need your input.

Has anyone out there packed away a small wood burning stove for emergency use? Did you make your own, buy it, improvise while camping?

We want to know!
